For the first time, astronomers have captured an image of the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy. The black hole is about 27,000 light-years away from Earth. The results of this groundbreaking discovery were published Thursday 912 May0 in a special issue of The Astrophysical Journal Letters. It has taken five years for astronomers to capture and confirm this image and discovery. Previously, scientists observed stars orbiting some invisible, massive object at the galactic center.
