Netherlands: Dr John Hagelin to present on Neurophysiology of Enlightenment at conference in Doorn, 30 May
Science and Nonduality (SAND) Europe Conference Translate This Article
26 May 2013
Among several presentations he will give this week at the 2013 Science and Nonduality (SAND) Europe conference in Doorn, Netherlands, renowned quantum physicist John Hagelin, Ph.D., will give an in-depth pre-conference workshop this Thursday, 30 May.
Dr. Hagelin is President of the David Lynch Foundation and the Global Union of Scientists for Peace.
The conference programme includes background information about the workshop presentation, which is titled 'Higher States — The Neurophysiology of Enlightenment':
'Since ancient times, the cherished goal of yoga and yoga meditation has been the attainment of enlightenment—moksha. In modern times, the scientific research community has focused on the more pedestrian but practical goals of improved physical health and wellbeing.
'Now, suddenly, scientific studies on long-term meditators are beginning to report a fascinating—and extremely important—side benefit of sustained meditation practice: higher states of consciousness. These are inherently natural states of consciousness beyond waking, dreaming, and deep sleep, which bring a completely transformed experience of the world, together with greatly expanded mental and physical capabilities.
'Throughout time, the Wise have extolled the power of thought: ''With a mustard seed of faith, you can move mountains.'' Yet, for most, there is a chasm between this scriptural ideal and everyday reality. Dr. Hagelin shows that the power of thought is entirely a function of our state of consciousness. With the development of higher states of consciousness, we can increasingly harness the full power of consciousness to fulfill our desires and change the world.
'The discovery of higher states—and their universal accessibility through specific meditation practices—changes radically our understanding of consciousness and the limits of human potential, and has far-reaching implications for the individual and society.
'Dr. Hagelin unites breakthrough discoveries in quantum physics and superstring theory with cutting-edge developments in neuroscience to forge a unified understanding of consciousness and the physical universe—revealing a profound connection between our inner and outer realities—mind and matter. This emerging paradigm presents a more complete and cohesive ''Theory of Everything'' in which the individual is truly cosmic.'
Dr Hagelin will give other presentations over the weekend. On Saturday, 1 June, he will give a talk titled 'Is Consciousness the Unified Field? A Field Theorist's Perspective'; he will also participate in two panel discussions, 1 and 2 June.
