After 20 years running the Maharishi Ayurveda Health Centre in Bad Ems, Germany, Lothar Pirc and his wife, medical director Dr. phil. Karin Pirc, continue to enjoy what they do.
The clinic was founded in the ancient spa town of Bad Ems and is housed in the former summer residence of Kaiser Wilhelm I. Since its opening in 1993, it has been recognized by German law as a private clinic and has become one of the premiere Ayurveda* clinics in Europe, with 'a wonderful team of about 100 staff members', Mr Pirc commented.
'Every year good things are happening,' he said. 'We have received so many awards. Again this year in spring we have received the RELAX GUIDE award for highest authentic quality.'
The RELAX GUIDE is the most important wellness and health guide in the German-speaking world.
Mr Pirc explained that the RELAX GUIDE tested 1,200 hotels that offer Ayurveda in the German-speaking countries. 'They found that only 30 of those are to be taken seriously, and we scored the very top there again, for the third consecutive year.'
The evaluation is rigorous, he said. 'They send people to test—we don't know who is coming—and they do a full Panchakarma [rejuvenation treatment] and then they evaluate you afterwards.'
In other news from the Maharishi Ayurveda Health Centre, Dr Karin Pirc was recently interviewed on German television. In Berlin, a talk show about the burnout syndrome invited Dr Pirc and five professors to weigh in about what could be done to help those suffering from long-term exhaustion and diminished interest in work. Dr Pirc spoke from her Ayurvedic expertise about treatment programmes to reduce stress and refresh the physiology, mind, and emotions.
The show received a very positive response, said Mr Pirc, and is now being broadcast regionally by about 20 television stations in Germany.
