Transcendental Meditation helps radiation oncologist handle on-the-job stress

At the Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center in Bakersfield, California, USA, many employees have learned Transcendental Meditation as part of a companywide wellness program offered by the center's director, oncologist Ravi Patel, M.D., to counteract the intense physical and emotional stress of their work.

Following are comments from Dr. Ajay Desai, radiation oncologist:
''Being a physician is very stressful. There are a lot of casualties of that stress. You see that in many different ways like depression, substance abuse. . . .
''The most important thing I've noticed is TM increases my productivity.
''I feel more energetic. I'm able to deal with a lot of those time pressing issues much better.''
Dr Desai's comments are featured on a seven-minute video documenting the positive impact the program has had on the whole atmosphere at the Center:
