Transcendental Meditation for women: Key to a healthy heart
Transcendental Meditation Program for Women Translate This Article
5 April 2012
Women often identify with matters of the heart and give much emotional energy to partners, children, parents, friends and community. Being pulled in so many directions, women can be stretched thin, which creates stress and renders them more susceptible to heart disease. Although it is the number one cause of death for women in the United States, most women do not know enough about heart disease and how to protect themselves from it.
NIH funded cardiovascular research on TM The National Institutes of Health has funded over $26 million in research on the Transcendental Meditation technique for prevention of heart disease. A study conducted at the University of Wisconsin and presented at a recent conference of the American Heart Association showed that deaths, heart attacks, and strokes were cut by nearly half for at-risk patients who practiced the TM technique, compared to controls.
Transcendental Meditation reduces main risk factors The Transcendental Meditation technique has also been found to reduce the three major risk factors for heart disease: high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. Stress and anxiety are known to create strain on the cardiovascular system, and TM practice is a powerful tool for reducing chronic anxiety and overall stress in our lives. The Transcendental Meditation technique also curbs smoking, drug and alcohol abuse, reducing these additional common risk factors for heart disease.
Effortless prevention During TM practice, the mind effortlessly settles inward to the most quiet, expanded state of restful alertness—putting the mind in contact with the inner reservoir of intelligence, happiness and creativity. In this meditative state, the brain functions more coherently while the body experiences deep rest, dissolving accumulated stresses and fatigue.
Because so many factors impact a woman's cardiovascular system, what we need is an effective, scientifically validated, holistic approach that balances body, mind, and emotions—Transcendental Meditation beautifully fulfills those requirements.
