The article features Liis Mattik, a native of Estonia, who received her BS in biology with a specialization in Maharishi Ayur-Veda health care in 1996 from Maharishi Vedic University in Naberezhnie Chelny, Tatarstan, Russia. She worked as a Maharishi Ayur-Veda health consultant and Transcendental Meditation teacher in Estonia, Russia, Latvia, and Norway.

Later she came to the United States and earned four degrees, including her PhD in Physiology this year, from Maharishi University of Management. Dr. Mattik is now an outstanding member of the MUM faculty.

Dr. Mattik's PhD dissertation focused on the aging process, and her research showed that the practice of the Transcendental Meditation program combined with appropriate diet and physical activity was effective in reducing allostatic load—the cumulative effect of stress that causes accelerated aging.
