Many in the US are becoming aware of the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation Programme for alleviating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among veterans of the Iraq and Afghan wars, thanks to the efforts of the David Lynch Foundation.

An example of mounting enthusiasm for this new application of TM is an article that appeared in the Wall Street Journal on 26 November, announcing that legendary film directors David Lynch, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, and George Lucas will be teaming together to launch 'Operation Warrior Wellness'—a new nationwide initiative to help 10,000 US military veterans overcome PTSD through practice of Transcendental Meditation. In the article, Dr Lynch is quoted as saying, 'We're behind this technique and think it can help reclaim veterans' lives and save themselves, their families and their friendships.'

Dr Lynch and Mr Eastwood will also be introducing Operation Warrior Wellness at a press conference in New York City on 13 December. They will be joined by a team of doctors, who will elaborate on the scientifically demonstrated benefits of TM for treating PTSD; as well as members of the military community, who will share their experiences and hope for this new initiative.

Following the press conference, the David Lynch Foundation's second annual 'Change Begins Within benefit will be held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where Dr Lynch and Mr Eastwood will be joined by other celebrities including Dr Mehmet Oz. They will present on the veterans' project along with other initiatives for introducing Transcendental Meditation among at-risk groups.

Making a special appearance at the gala will be Mr Jerry Yellin, a veteran of World War II who, with Dr Sarina Grosswald, has recently completed a book on Transcendental Meditation and its ability to alleviate and prevent PTSD. Copies of the book will be available for guests at the benefit.

'It is significant that the Wall Street Journal has featured an article on this programme, since it attracts the most influential readership among publications in the US,' commented Dr Mario Orsatti, Director of Communication for the Transcendental Meditation Programme in the US. 'This is a great sign for the progress of the Warrior Wellness initiative.'
