Three new studies reveal health benefits of Transcendental Meditation for heart disease, breast cancer
by Global Good News staff writer

24 November 2009
Several major studies on health benefits of the Transcendental Meditation Programme have been released during the past few weeks, with findings of:
∙ lower rates of heart attack, stroke, and death among patients with coronary heart disease; ∙ reduced stress and hypertension risk among college students; as well as ∙ decreased stress among breast cancer patients.
Speaking on Maharishi Global Family Chat,* Dr Robert Roth, National Director of Expansion for the Global Country of World Peace in the United States, announced a study recently published in the American Journal of Hypertension. The research, conducted at American University in Washington, DC, revealed that Transcendental Meditation is an effective method to reduce high blood pressure, anxiety, and depression among college students at high risk for hypertension.
Another breakthrough study was presented on 16 November 2009 at a major meeting of the American Heart Association. Conducted at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, in collaboration with the Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention at Maharishi University of Management (M.U.M.) in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, the study found that heart disease patients practising Transcendental Meditation had a 47% reduction in death rates. Dr Roth commented that the wide press coverage of this study was extraordinary, considering that the research is not yet published.
Finally Dr Roth noted briefly a study conducted at St Joseph Hospital in Chicago, in conjunction with Dr Sanford Nidich (also of the M.U.M. Institute), which showed reduced stress and anxiety among women with breast cancer.
'These three momentous studies came out in a span of just three weeks—and there are many more to come,' said Dr Roth in closing.
* Dr Roth's report was featured on the 17 November 2009 Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
