by David Adam

2 May 2005
On 2 May 2005 The Guardian reported:
Practice of the Transcendental Meditation Technique (TM) can extend life expectancy according to a new study published in the American Journal of Cardiology. The research, funded by the US government, followed a group of senior citizens over 18 years and found they had a 23% lower risk of death from all causes during that time.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of health.
The Guardian article quoted Robert Schneider, director of the centre for natural medicine and prevention at the Maharishi University of Management and the lead researcher on the study, as saying, 'The study found that in older people with mild high blood pressure, those practising transcendental meditation had a 23% lower risk of death from all causes.'
The study combined findings from two earlier trials that followed a group of senior citizens over 18 years. One segment of the group was taught the Transcendental Meditation Programme, while the other segments were taught other stress reduction techniques such as progressive muscle relaxation.
The Guardian reported, 'The transcendental meditation group had 30% fewer deaths from heart disease and 49% fewer from cancer.'
Schneider noted that research over the last 30 years has proven that the Transcendental Meditation Technique provides a number of health benefits including lower stress hormone levels and blood pressure. 'This study builds on that and shows the final outcome of these physiological and psychological changes is a longer life span,' said Dr Schneider.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
