A press conference last month in New York City and another early this month in Los Angeles highlighting a new study that shows the effectiveness of the Transcendental Meditation technique in reducing high blood pressure in teens has resulted in a wave of publicity.

News about the study, which appeared on April 2 in the American Journal of Hypertension, quickly spread around the world and included extensive coverage on CNN Global News, CNN Medical News, CNN Headline News, CBS News, MSNBC News, and CTV News in Canada.

In addition, there were hundreds of reports in newspapers, on local television and radio shows, and on the Internet, including Newsweek, USA Today, the New York Times, Newsday, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Miami Herald, Orlando Sentinel, Los Angeles Times, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and Toronto Star, as well as top medical magazines on the Internet, such as WebMD, HealthDay, and Medical News Today.

The segment on CNN first ran on CNN's main prime-time news program on Friday morning, April 2, and was subsequently played numerous times on Friday and Sunday on CNN Headline News, which is broadcast globally.

A segment by health reporter Dr. David Marks aired on WNBC several days after the press conference and was subsequently distributed to NBC stations all over the country.

The Los Angeles press conference featured His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi via satellite, film director David Lynch, actress Laura Dern, and Maharishi University of Management physics professor John Hagelin.

Also speaking was Nick Fitts, one of the subjects in the study, who told how the technique helped him calm down and think more clearly. Maharishi University of Management student Justin Cutter and recent alum Jesse Berkowitz also spoke about the value of Consciousness-Based Education, as did Maharishi School student Alexandra Kurzen.
