European Union Summit meetings bring together heads of state in Brussels, Belgium, every few months to make important decisions for the whole EU. Not only does the EU Summit convene in Brussels, but the European Commission, European Council, and European Parliament are all located there. Brussels has been described as the 'political pulse' of the EU.
The Maharishi Invincibility Centre for Belgium is centrally located in Brussels, only a few hundred metres from where European Union Summit meetings are held. The centre offers courses in Transcendental Meditation and related programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Several times a year the centre also hosts special Peace Assemblies coinciding with the EU Summit meetings.
Participating in the EU Summit Peace Assemblies are people from all over Europe who practise Transcendental Meditation and the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme. Group practice of these peace-creating technologies of consciousness by even a small percentage of the population has been shown by scientific research to reduce social stress and crime and promote positive trends in society. The purpose of the Peace Assemblies is to create a coherent, harmonious atmosphere for EU leaders to conduct their Summit meetings, so their decisions will have the most life-supporting effect for all the people of Europe, said Dr Stijn van den Bosch, director of the Transcendental Meditation programme in Belgium.
Press reports have reflected the harmonious influence created by the meditation group in close proximity to the Summit meetings. During one important EU Summit where expectations for a positive outcome were low, media reported that heads of state came to an accord on the first day. An article commented, 'after 20 failed EU Summit meetings, here is finally one that has some good results.'
Another time, at the end of the Summit, the European Council president spoke about a historic agreement. Media coverage indicated a remarkable coherence had emerged among different European nations, especially the larger countries. Prior to that time, press reports showed each nation upholding its own interests. But then attitudes changed, and the political leaders began to work together.
In the past two years Peace Assembly participants have come representing thirteen EU countries, including France, Germany, UK, Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Denmark, Holland, Poland, and Switzerland.
In addition to group practice of Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques, the Peace Assembly programme features lectures and other presentations. Special guests have included Dr Ashley Deans, Executive Director, Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in the USA, who spoke on Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes for creating world peace; Lt. Col. (Ret.) Gunter Chassé, who described the role of Maharishi's initiatives in creating peace in Europe during the Cold War era; Dr Peter Swan, an expert in Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture, who spoke about food safety in the EU; and Austrian cardiologist Dr Rainer Picha, who serves as Minister of Health of the Global Country of World Peace,* presenting the Model of Vedic Physiology.
* The Global Country of World Peace was founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi as a consortium of educational organizations in more than 100 countries working to create a new era of peace, progress, and prosperity in our world family. It is a 'nation without borders', a home for peace-loving people everywhere.
