David Lynch Foundation UK attends Global Impact conference

16 October 2012
An exciting discussion forum, aimed at creating a united platform to promote peace and positive social development in the world, was hosted in August at the Houses of Parliament in London. The one day event was sponsored by the Global Impact Institute, a new organisation that is the offshoot of an initiative by the US State Department and other governments to promote positive social change and eliminate conflict and injustice in the world. It defines itself as ''a new programme committed to build portfolios of high-impact initiatives to more effectively address global challenges through innovative partnerships''.
Attending the event by invitation were 120 ''movers and shakers'' of the world, including representatives of the United Nations, the US and British governments, and leading business people, philanthropists, Olympic champions and celebrities. Chair of the conference was Howard Buffett, grandson of the investor and philanthropist Warren Buffett, who is consistently ranked as one of the wealthiest people in the world.
A keynote speech was delivered by Amir Dossal, the United Nations' Chief Liaison for Partnerships, responsible for forming alliances with governments, corporations, foundations and philanthropists to achieve the Millennium Development Goals—goals that range from the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger to ensuring universal primary education.
Appropriately, the UK branch of the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace was among those invited to take part.
Dr Peter Warburton, Chairman of Maharishi Foundation UK, and one of the DLF UK Trustees attending, commented: ''Throughout the conference proceedings there was a very positive energy and everyone without exception was interested in Maharishi's programmes. We had the opportunity to let everyone know that whatever development programme is taking place in the world, without Transcendental Meditation to develop human resources, no project will be fully successful since the people will all be unchanged.''
Another Trustee representing DLF UK was Nigel Barlow, who, as well as being a Transcendental Meditation teacher, is a well-known author and business coach. He has worked with many organisations including major corporations and is recognised for his innovative approach to developing creativity and problem solving.
The conference proved to be an important opportunity to present Maharishi's programmes to people working at the forefront of projects for a better world, and provided DLF UK with valuable contacts for future collaboration.
