A conference on Innovative Approaches to Human Development, Leadership Training, and Research at the largest university in Mongolia developed last spring after two faculty members visited Maharishi University of Management in the United States, and learned Transcendental Meditation on their return home.
Two professors from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology visited Maharishi University of Management (MUM) in June. Dr. Oyuntsetseg Luvsandondov, the deputy director of research and innovation in the School of Computer Science and Management, and Dr. Enkhtuya Bavuudorj, director of the Business Administration Department, felt inspired by their visit to learn Transcendental Meditation.
The two professors invited faculty from Maharishi University of Management to participate. During the three-day conference, a delegation from MUM addressed a group of 120 top professionals.
According to Dr Tom Stanley, vice-chair of the MUM Board of Trustees and director of Consciousness-Based programmes in Mongolia, the audience members 'were all very educated, intelligent, highly attentive professionals in their fields. They were educators, researchers, business and industrial executives, school principals, and people in human resource departments.'
The audience listened to presentations by several professors at Maharishi University of Management, including Dr Fred Travis, Director of the Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition.
Dr Travis discussed brain functioning, EEG (electroencephalography) research, and brain potential. He then gave a live EEG demonstration. A practitioner of Transcendental Meditation was hooked up to EEG electrodes and had her brain waves monitored during normal activity and then during meditation.
Research and demonstrations like this have helped establish the validity of Transcendental Meditation, Dr Stanley commented. Transcendental Meditation is 'established and empirically demonstrated through EEG research' as well as many other areas of scientific research conducted on the technique over the last 40 years.
Dr Stanley added that the founder of the Transcendental Meditation programme, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, 'was a pioneer of in terms validating the programme through scientific research. This was a huge factor in its universal acceptance.'
