In light of the recent graduation at Maharishi University of Management, the university's Executive Vice President, Dr Craig Pearson, spoke of the major achievements of the past year.

'It's really interesting to be in a Consciousness-Based Education institution,' he commented, '—where, on one level, everything just seems to be happening naturally and organically and smoothly . . . and then when you look back on the year you see watershed events that took place and a huge number of achievements that just in some way seem to be effortless.'

Dr Pearson first highlighted the three most significant achievements of the year.

'If any one of the three happened alone, we would have looked on it as a fantastic year.'

He began with the visit of Oprah Winfrey to the campus and community last fall. Her show on Fairfield, Iowa, Maharishi University of Management, and Transcendental Meditation was broadcast three times and hundreds of thousands of people watched.

'We're continuing to see the effects of . . . that really excellent coverage of the university and Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes, and endorsement of those programmes by arguably the most influential woman in the world,' Dr Pearson said. 'We're continuing to see . . . an increase to our admissions office.'

Another watershed event was the grand opening of the Sustainable Living Center on 20 April.

Dr Pearson spoke of the media coverage garnered by the opening.

'Completely coincidentally, the Director of Tourism for the state of Iowa happened to be in Fairfield that day and learned about the opening of the building, and came and spoke at the press conference. Even before we had put a shovel into the ground, media outlets such as Forbes, Business Week, the Chicago Tribune, MSNBC, and other national media were calling it the ultimate green building.'

He added, 'We had regional and national media covering the opening of this building, which sets a standard in the industry and is the first building in the world to combine the foundations of the principles of Maharishi Vastu, LEED certification at the platinum level, Baubiologie, and the Living Building Challenge. When the building is finished, all of those high standards will be unfolded in that one building.'

The third major achievement of the year was the tour of Africa and Mediterranean countries by Maharishi University of Management's President, Dr Bevan Morris. Dr Morris met with several presidents, government committees, and educational leaders.

According the Dr Pearson, he was 'inspiring people and planting seeds. We're looking forward to those seeds bearing fruit around Africa and the Mediterranean.'
