Recently interest in the study of Maharishi Vedic Science at Maharishi University of Management has been expanding.
Reflecting the growing interest, this field of study—the science and technology of consciousness, founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi—has a new home: previously a department within the university, it has become the College of Maharishi Vedic Science.
According to Dr William Sands, dean of the new college, past inquiries about the department and its courses usually came from a set group of people.
'Previously our programmes have been very attractive to individuals who were already practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme and most particularly, long-term practitioners of the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme.'
However, in the last two years there has been a shift.
Dr Sands remarked, 'Many people who have never heard of Maharishi, who have never heard of Transcendental Meditation, who have never heard of Maharishi Vedic Science nonetheless want to come and study with us at Maharishi University of Management.'
He went on to describe these new students. 'We're receiving a great number of students now who have never practised Transcendental Meditation' before they arrived on campus, and 'quite a few of them want to major in Maharishi Vedic Science.'
Faculty at the College of Maharishi Vedic Science 'can only marvel at the awakened level of consciousness that recognizes the greatness of this knowledge without ever having sat for even a single session of Transcendental Meditation. It's a remarkable phenomenon and it's growing,' Dr Sands said.
The admissions office gets many calls every day from people who were scouring the Internet looking for a college to attend. Many are transfer students who are dissatisfied with the education they have been receiving from top universities around the world.
Others are practitioners of meditation and self-development programmes who have been dissatisified with their own progress and are now turning to Transcendental Meditation and other programmes developed by Maharishi.
Admissions staff give the students a very deep appreciation of the range of knowledge and programmes brought to light by Maharishi from the ancient Vedic tradition, so that when they arrive on campus, said Dr Sands, 'they recognize that this is something very special and very profound.'
