Uganda: Consciousness-Based Education for girls expanding
Global Mother Divine Organization Translate This Article
12 January 2011
Among many other successful outcomes, the tour of Uganda by Dr Ashley Deans, Global Ambassador for Consciousness-Based Education, last autumn created a new momentum of progress for education of women and girls in that country.
Progress in offering Consciousness-Based Education for girls in Uganda in the past year was reported during a recent international conference of the Global Mother Divine Organization* (GMDO) in MERU, Holland. in
The GMDO report noted that the Forum of African Women Educators (FAWE) is a highly effective advocacy organization for women and girls in Africa.
While visiting Uganda during his tour of eight African countries, Dr Deans met the Executive Director of the Ugandan Chapter of FAWE, accompanied by Mr Grant Lusimbo, Director of Maharishi Secondary School for Girls in Mbale, Uganda. Mr Lusimbo brought four top students to the meeting, which had a very positive outcome.
The FAWE Director was interested in the application of the Transcendental Meditation Technique in education and planned to visit the girls' school, which is located in her home city. The solid research and excellent results of Consciousness-Based Education would be likely to draw official support, she commented.
The Maharishi Secondary School for Girls is expanding facilities for boarding students from 30 to 50 places and building additional classrooms to allow for an increase in daytime student enrolment.
In association with a non-governmental organization (NGO) at a primary school near the capital city of Kampala, where pupils already practise Transcendental Meditation, plans for permanent facilities and development of a Consciousness Based Education School are underway. A generous well-wisher of Consciousness-Based Education would like to build girls' schools in Uganda, and thus another Maharishi Secondary School for girls can be created.
Global Good News will continue to feature more highlights of GMDO reports on achievements in Africa, as well as those of the organization in many other countries, in the coming days.
* The Global Mother Divine Organization was founded in December 2007 as the women's wing of the Global Country of World Peace, currently active in 86 countries and rapidly expanding to include 192 countries of the world. In the ancient Vedic tradition of India, the expression 'Mother Divine' refers to the universal, all-nourishing qualities of nature—bliss, intelligence, creativity, harmony—that promote life in the direction of peace and progress.
