Students and staff at Trinity College in Connecticut, USA, have recently begun practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme, including an entire women's sports team, staff of the college counseling centre, and other students.
The women's squash team at Trinity College has excelled this year, and attributes its success to the team members all learning Transcendental Meditation, which they then began practising together. Women on the renowned college's squash team are top players from 10 different countries, explained Dr Adam Pressman, National Director of Video Production for the Global Country of World Peace in the US. He showed a video clip in which the players expressed appreciation for the increased mental peace, creativity, and spontaneous ability to be in 'the zone' that they are experiencing with regular TM practice. The coaches also learned the technique.
The squash team heard of Transcendental Meditation from the staff of Trinity College's counseling centre. All of the centre's staff had learnt TM, which they found much easier and more effective than a 'mindfulness' technique which they had practised previously.
In the previous year, the squash team lost many of its top players, but in spite of this and other challenges it has retained its rank this year of number three in the US, which was not thought to be possible. Other high-ranking US teams have noticed a higher level of happiness, in addition to skill, among the Trinity players.
The College is now employing a Transcendental Meditation Teacher full-time to provide follow-up to those already practising the technique, as well as expanding instruction. Students who choose to learn TM will be able to practise it as part of their college studies, and even gain credit towards their degrees.
