Maharishi University of Enlightenment (MUE) held its third Commencement ceremony on Thursday 24 June 2010. The ceremony was broadcast live via internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 5 (Global Mother Divine Channel).
At the graduation, Maharishi University of Enlightenment granted BA, MA and PhD degrees in Maharishi Vedic Science, as well as an honorary Doctor of Laws degree to Jane Roman Pitt.
The graduation ceremony was webcast live simultaneously from Constitution Hall in Maharishi Vedic City, Iowa, and Livingston Manor, NY, in the United States; and also from MERU, Holland.
The President of MUE gave a beautiful welcome and opening address, followed by 'the Fruit of Maharishi Vedic Education': each of the graduating students related experiences of higher states of consciousness, correlated with aspects of the Vedic Literature.
Featured in the ceremony were brilliant addresses by a number of eminent women in education and other fields. There were two Commencement addresses, the first by Madame Simone Comarmond, Chair of the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE), speaking from MERU, Holland; and the second by Patricia Wilkins, Founder of BASICS International, Ghana.
A highlight of the conferring of degrees ceremony was the honorary Doctor of Laws degree bestowed on Jane Roman Pitt, a pioneer of Consciousness-Based Education in the United States. Dr Pitt's work in establishing the Transcendental Meditation Programme at the Nataki Talibah Schoolhouse in Detroit, Michigan inspired filmmaker David Lynch to found the David Lynch Foundation, which has provided funding for over 100,000 schoolchildren around the world to learn the technique.
Carmen N'Namdi, Founder and former Principal of the Nataki Talibah Schoolhouse, and Dr Nancy Liebler, Patron of the Consciousness-Based Education project at the school, offered congratulatory remarks to Dr Pitt following her eloquent acceptance speech.
Dr Amanda Weltman, a theoretical physicist who was named best emerging young researcher in the natural sciences and engineering in South Africa in 2009, gave remarks of inspiration to the graduates, followed by appreciation from two Raj Rajeshwaris* of the Global Country of World Peace.
MUE looks forward to beginning to offer degree programmes to women through Maharishi College of Enlightenment, a division of Maharishi University of Management, starting in August 2010. Dr Cathy Gorini, Dean of Maharishi College of Enlightenment, gave an overview of the new BA programme. She is also Dean of Faculty at MUM.
The commencement ceremony concluded with an inspiring charge to the graduates by the President of MUE.
The broadcast will be replayed throughout the coming month on Channel 5, and will replace the monthly Global Mother Divine Organization* Full Moon broadcast.
In the coming days Global Good News will feature some of the addresses given during the MUE Commencement Ceremony.
* Raj Rajeshwaris—Mothers of the World from the Sovereign Domain of Consciousness—are the Administrators of the Global Mother Divine Organization, inaugurated in December 2007 as the ladies' wing of the Global Country of World Peace in 192 countries.
