30 December 2009
In South Africa, over 100 school teachers and principals in a large Indian community have been instructed in Transcendental Meditation. About 500 students have also learnt the technique, and there is a plan for another 1,500 students to learn in 2010. The students are aware that the goal is to create Yogic Flyers for the invincibility of the country, and there has been tremendous support to accomplish this.
In 2009, 450 people in South Africa learnt Transcendental Meditation. One of the busiest Maharishi Invincibility Centres* in the world is at Houghton, in Johannesburg, reported Raja Robert LoPinto,** Raja (Administrator) of South Africa for the Global Country of World Peace, recently. Eighty people have received Panchakarma (rejuvenation therapy) treatment at the Maharishi Ayur-Veda Health Centre at the National Transcendental Meditation Academy; another 30 enjoyed Panchakarma in Houghton.
A new South African book on ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), published by Macmillan, includes a section on scientific research on the benefits of Transcendental Meditation in education.
South Africa hosted the 2009 'Rotating University' tour from Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA. Eleven students, two faculty, and five guests visited Maharishi Invincibility Institute in Johannesburg and the Ezemvelo Nature Reserve—'really creating a bond with the students at the Institute,' Raja LoPinto said, 'getting to know each other and their different ways of life.' Together they planned a Youth Conference to build relationships between the two schools and among the youth in both countries. Two students from the Invincibility Institute later visited Maharishi University of Management.
* Raja LoPinto spoke on the 16 December Maharishi Global Family Chat, which is broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
