Canada: Improving brain integration through Consciousness-Based Education
by Global Good News staff writer

13 October 2009
Integration of brain functioning is an important result of the Transcendental Meditation programme. It has been found to be of great value in the field of education to increase academic performance and learning ability; in the field of business to improve creativity and the ability to work under pressure; and in the field of sports, in which top athletes have been found to have higher levels of brain integration.
Presenting the results of the application of Transcendental Meditation in education, Dr Ashley Deans spoke on the Maharishi Channel on 7 October,* about how Consciousness-Based Education is being applied in schools throughout Canada.
Dr Deans has toured Canada with Raja Paul Potter, Raja of Canada for the Global Country of World Peace; Dr Guy-Paul Gagné, Professor of Medicine at McGill University in Montreal; Dr Clarence Cormier, former Minister of Education for the Province of New Brunswick, a Teacher of Transcendental Meditation, and Global Minister of Administration for the Global Country; and Dr William Overall, National Director of Canada for the Global Country.
Dr Deans, Dr Gagné, and Dr Cormier visited Halifax, Nova Scotia, where an event had been organized on behalf of Consciousness-Based Education. Dr Cormier spoke about the necessity of implementing Consciousness-Based Education in schools; and Dr Gagné informed the audience that the most important priority in education today is to develop integrated brain functioning in students.
'If the students are only using five per cent of their potential, you can have many learning technologies, such as brain-based learning,' commented Dr Deans, 'but you try to do the best you can with that five per cent.'
He explained that Consciousness-Based Education increases the five per cent to much higher percentages, so that education becomes truly successful.
Dr Deans showed slides of their continuing presentations across Canada; Global Good News will present future articles about this tour in the coming days.
* Dr Deans' presentation was featured on Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
