Dr Ashley Deans, Ambassador of the Global Country of World Peace for Consciousness-Based Education, Deputy Minister of Education of the Global Country of World Peace, and Director of Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in Fairfield, Iowa, USA recently reported on the expansion of Consciousness-Based Education across the United States and Canada.
Speaking on the Maharishi Global Family Chat, he said, 'More and more students [are] coming to Maharishi School and Maharishi University of Management [also located in Fairfield, Iowa] from all over the world.'
'We've had a record number of students entering Maharishi University of Management this Fall from 70 different countries. . . . We've just had a student at Maharishi School arrive from Argentina, [and] we have another student arriving from Korea very soon.'
The Maharishi School is also expanding its facilities and working to make the school and faculty housing perfect Vastu. All of the Vastu faculty houses will be complete in October and November, he said.
Across the United States and also in Canada, 'there's really been an explosion of interest in Consciousness-Based Education,' Dr Deans continued.
Inspired by his visit to Maharishi School several years ago, award-winning filmmaker David Lynch started the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace in order to offer this ideal education to every student of the world.
Now there are Consciousness-Based Education programmes offered in schools across the US, Dr Deans reported. These include several high schools—one in Arizona with 200 students who have learned Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Technique; another, in Connecticut, with 620 students practising Transcendental Meditation and another 380 waiting to learn; and a school in New York with 70 students who have learned the technique.
A number of middle schools are offering the programme as well, including one in California where 415 students have learned Transcendental Meditation, and two more middle schools—where 43 faculty members have already learned—are just beginning the programme. There is also a middle school in Colorado with 45 students practising Transcendental Meditation.
In addition, in Michigan there is a Kindergarten through Grade 8 school with 180 students that offers Transcendental Meditation; in Washington, DC, a Kindergarten through Grade 10 school with 200 students practising Transcendental Meditation. Three Native American schools are offering the programme—one in Nebraska with 234 students practising Transcendental Meditation; and two schools in South Dakota and Maine, with approximately 145 students and 50 students respectively participating.
Other schools have expressed interest in Consciousness-Based Education and are on waiting lists to begin the programme, Dr Deans said.
In Canada, three schools are ready to offer Consciousness-Based Education, he continued.
In addition, a recent Canadian visitor to Maharishi School was so impressed by the 'settled, quiet, coherent atmosphere' of the school, and the students' depth of Vedic Knowledge—such as prevention-oriented, side-effect free Vedic Health Care—that he left 'very, very inspired to establish Consciousness-Based schools in Canada', Dr Deans said.
