12 July 2008
Dr Craig Pearson, Executive Vice President of Maharishi University of Management, in Fairfield, Iowa, USA spoke at the opening of the University's 33rd commencement on 28 June 2008.
He began by welcoming the esteemed guests—Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace and University President; Dr John Hagelin, world-renowned physicist and Raja of Invincible America; several other Rajas of the Global Country of World Peace; Dr Howard and Dr Alice Settle, founders of the Howard and Alice Settle Foundation for Invincible America; University Trustees, faculty, students, parents, families, and friends.
'What a momentous year this has been for all of us, for the University as a whole, and for each of you as graduating students,' he said. 'This year we are graduating 243 students—the largest graduating class in 20 years.'
The graduating class of 188 graduate students and 55 undergraduates together represent 34 countries, he continued. 'The most abundantly represented country with 84 graduating students is Ethiopia; and we have from the United States 52 students graduating, from Nepal 22, from India 15 students, from the People's Republic of China 15 students, and the rest of our students are spread out through countries around the world, from Moldova to Mongolia, from Bolivia to Belarus, from Venezuela to Vietnam. You will hear each of these countries named as each student graduates.'
The range of ages among the graduates was also impressive. 'Our youngest graduating student at age 20 is . . . from the People's Republic of China, and our most golden student—honoured last night with the Golden Student Award—at age 88 is Betty Sheasgreen. Our congratulations to each and every one of you. . . .'
'It's for you and because of you that this institution exists; . . . because of you that this University will be here for the next generations of students; and because of you that our world has a bright future. We the Trustees, the faculty, the administration of the University appreciate you so much and we honour and congratulate you on this day.'
