On a recent Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via satellite and over the Internet on Channel 3 of the Maharishi Channel, Dr Mario Orsatti, National Director of Communications for the Global Country of World Peace in the United States, reported on a recent research study conducted by Washington, DC's American University and Maharishi University of Management (M.U.M.) in Fairfield, Iowa, on Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation (TM) Programme.

Dr Orsatti explained that the $1.2 million 'randomized control' study, conducted over the past three years, randomly assigned students to learning Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Technique or being in a control group. He said the improved brain development through Transcendental Meditation which was found as a result of the research, 'stirred the national press to visit M.U.M. and American University'.

Dr Orsatti reported some of the students' subjective experiences after practising the technique for as little as one year. One student said, 'TM changed my life gradually. It's hard for me to believe how much more productive I am, accomplishing more with less effort.' One student who had been angry and yelling most of the time said, 'I can now feel safe and secure within myself. I feel my serenity growing. I cannot remember the last time I had to raise my voice.'

Another who had tried, and stopped using, other kinds of meditation, was finally able to come back to school after learning the Transcendental Meditation Technique. An art student who formerly sought inspiration only outside herself said, 'I have been able to tap into a resource I did not know existed. It never occurred to me that creativity could come from inside myself. It has sincerely changed my life.'

One young man was under such stress that neither he nor his parents thought he would be able to complete his studies. 'Eight months ago my life was so overrun by stress I felt that part of me was lost,' he reported. 'I was sceptical about TM, even after the first month, thinking that the benefits might be just placebo effects. I now have energy and Self-confidence.' Dr Orsatti explained that this student found his studies were getting easier; and after consulting with his doctor, he stopped taking medication for attention deficit disorder.

Dr Orsatti pointed out that people can log on to www.stressfreeschools.org for more information about this and other studies on Transcendental Meditation in education, including videos of the students quoted above, as well as others.
