On 25 February 2008 Indiaedunews.net reported: The University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) is establishing the Dr Mani Bhaumik Chair of Consciousness Study, in order to study the mind-universe relationship. Dr Bhaumik acknowledges that Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of the Transcendental Meditation (TM) programme, 'showed to the West how our consciousness affects the body'. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of education.

Dr Bhaumik stated, 'The mind of man and god is a single finely tuned broadcast system. Ten universities are now doing research on the effects of TM on the human mind.'

The new chair (seat of office, authority, or dignity, such as a professorship) is named after the 77-year-old scientist and co-inventor of LASIK eye surgery. Dr Bhaumik has given $1 million to UCLA to fund the new chair, which will be at the Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunology.

Dr Bhaumik selected the Cousins Center for his chair because of their mind-body research. The Indian-born scientist and multi-millionaire inventor has also created the Mani Bhaumik Award, which is a $15,000 award given to those who do 'pioneering' research on the mind-body connection at the Cousins Center.

The article quoted Dr Bhaumik as saying, 'Physics has done a wonderful job of pinning down the physical reality of the universe. But it has no knowledge about the origin and nature of its consciousness. This chair will work on this theme.'

He also stated that consciousness permeates the universe, and was quoted as saying, 'In Hinduism, we call this consciousness Brahma, which is the basis of the universe. In Physics, the so-called magnetic field is the basis of the universe. Thus, Brahma and physics are two sides of the same coin. The goal of my chair is to marry Brahma with physics.'

Dr Bhaumik is also helping to build the Rs.100 crore ($25 million) Mani Bhaumik International University on 15 acres in Kolkata, India.

Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
