On 1 February 2008 The Fairfield Ledger reported:
The new 50,000-square-foot Argiro Student Center is opening at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA on 1 February 2008.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of education.
'We look to this building to mark a major transformation in the quality of life on campus,' the article quoted executive vice president of Maharishi University of Management, Craig Pearson, as saying. 'It's really the hub of the campus.'
The Student Center*, which has been under construction since 2006, features 'a student lounge and cafe, bookstore, conference room, kitchen, dance floor, mailroom and 300-seat auditorium, as well as dining halls, classroom space, exercise space and student government offices. Anyone is welcome to eat at the center, shop at the bookstore and attend concerts and events in the new auditorium,' the article reported.
Among the new buildings at Maharishi University of Management, this one serves as a 'flagship for the campus community', Mr Pearson was quoted as saying.
Vincent and Maggie Argiro, generous supporters of the new Student Center, were quoted as saying, 'M.U.M. is growing, and new and better facilities are essential to maintain, and indeed to accelerate and enhance, that growth. The center will encourage the arts, cultural events, social gatherings . . . [as well as] conferences, seminars, ceremonies, and special events.'
The article reported that it's design* is environmentally friendly and energy efficient, enabling it to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification.
Global Good News comment:
*The Argiro Student Center is built according to the principles of Maharishi Vedic Architecture.
