A student at Maharishi School in Fairfield, Iowa, USA has been named a Discovery Channel semi-finalist.
Ralph Burne is one of 400 National Semi-Finalists in the Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge, the nation's premier science contest for fifth through eighth grade students. Burne and the other semi-finalists were selected from over 1,900 formal entries chosen from a pool of 75,000 students who entered science fairs nationwide.
Burne will join three other Iowa students this fall when the field is narrowed from 1,960 to the final 40 students, who will participate in team-based interactive challenges focused on this year's environmental theme of climate change, global warming, and eco-friendly initiatives.
The students will compete for more than $100,000 worth of scholarships and special prizes, as well as the title of 'America's Top Young Scientist of the Year.'
