Schools are discovering the value of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Programme for their students. Extensive research over several decades has shown that regular practice of TM reduces anxiety, increases mental clarity, and improves health.

fulfilment to the field of education.
According to the article, Augusta, Georgia's Richmond County school system recently supported a Medical College of Georgia study of 156 black inner-city adolescents, with elevated blood pressure, who practiced TM for 15 minutes twice daily. 'The study established TM as the first non-medical treatment to reduce high blood pressure in teenagers. Students who practised TM also had lower rates of absenteeism, misbehaviour, and suspension.'
Educator Sarina Grosswald is exploring the usefulness of TM in aiding the learning ability of 10 students diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) at Chelsea School, a private school in Silver Spring, Maryland. She says the school is very receptive and sees the project as a priority.
Ten years ago, in one of Washington DC's most troubled neighbourhoods, principle George Rutherford instituted the practice of TM at Fletcher-Johnson School. He says the atmosphere of the school has been transformed. At the Ideal Academy, a charter school in Washington, DC, he has recently introduced TM for staff development, and to cope with teacher burnout. TM for students will soon be added.
At Nataki Talibah Schoolhouse, a Detroit charter middle school, 120 students and teachers are practising TM.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is the founder of the TM Movement and the founder of Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment and Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa. These institutions provide Consciousness-Based Education with TM included in their curriculums. Maharishi says that as the mind and body quiet down with TM, students experience 'whole brain functioning', giving the 'experience of their own infinite inner creative intelligence'.
