Last month five groups of Maharishi School students performed at the prestigious Iowa High School State Speech Association All-State Festival in Ames, with a group mime winning the coveted Critic's Choice All-State Banner for Outstanding Group Mime. The All-State Banner is the highest accolade possible in the competition, and this is the thirteenth Banner to be awarded to Maharishi School -- more than any other school in the state.
The students performed a musical theater, a choral reading, and three group mimes. Also, a one-man/twelve-character play received Special Recognition. The entries were directed by Rodney Franz, who was assisted by Camryn Shada, Erin Levi, and Brendan Thomas. Commenting on the performances, Mr. Franz said, 'They were all wonderful. I couldn't have asked for more.'
The award-winning group mime was performed by Ben Caplan, Noah Caplan, Isaac Nevas, Graham Thatcher, and Ike Winkler. Other participants included Sundari Bales, Geoff Boothby, Toby Briggs, Anna Bruen, Sylvio Crone, Anila Cunningham, Spring Cutter, Atish Dey, Mogen Fishback, Angela Fotz, Malinda Gosvig, Eddy Hipp, Melissa Huffsmith, Tace James, Anjali Krystofiak, Olivia Lopez, Miranda Mallard, Donna Schill, Tim Shaw, Alexander Stone, Jaime Thatcher, Devon Thomas, Alana Waksman, and Sophia Woodward.
