7 January 2013
Another musician honoured at the David Lynch Foundation UK's first gala benefit was Tim Burgess, lead singer of The Charlatans, who received a special DLF 'Peace Award' from David Lynch (via video link) in recognition of the work he has done raising support for DLF UK.
The citation to Tim, a keen supporter of the DLF in recent years, read: ''The David Lynch Foundation honours Tim Burgess in appreciation of your profound contribution to spreading the light and joy in the world, transforming lives from within, and bringing peace and fulfilment to those in need. You made a world of difference!''
Ably compered by international creativity expert and author Nigel Barlow—also a Trustee of the David Lynch Foundation UK—the evening included an entertaining live auction hosted by professional auctioneer and the Sunday Mirror columnist on antiques, Jamie Breese. Items for the live auction included special signed prints by David Lynch and a weekend at a 5-star Cotswold cottage. There will also be a silent online auction with donations from Graham Hancock, Donovan, Tim Burgess, and others.
''We're very grateful to all who donated, and to all who attended the event,'' said Deirdre Parsons, Trustee and Executive Director of DLF UK. ''By funding courses in Transcendental Meditation, it will benefit adults and youths who are the most vulnerable in our society—especially those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, and will help raise awareness of this simple, natural technique to develop everyone's full potential.''
For more information about the David Lynch Foundation UK's programmes helping children and other at-risk groups alleviate the effects of traumatic stress through Transcendental Meditation, visit: www.davidlynchfoundation.org.uk.
Online auction: www.charitybuzz.com—through 8 January.
