Change Begins Within Gala in Los Angeles a great success

6 December 2011
On December 3, 2011, the third annual Change Begins Within Gala was held in Los Angeles, California. The gala was organized by the David Lynch Foundation to raise funds and awareness in support of the many programmes the foundation is spearheading.
Such programmes include work in education and using Transcendental Meditation to help treat veterans and others suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Bob Roth, vice president of the David Lynch Foundation and one of the event's organizers, felt that the Change Begins Within Gala was 'the culmination of all the work that the teachers of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation have been doing in the United States, teaching these programmes over the past many years.'
The gala was a great success, with over 850 people in attendance and the venue where it was held, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, completely packed. Several hundred more people had to be turned away from the fully-subscribed event.
Several celebrities spoke and shared their experiences with, and appreciation for, Transcendental Meditation. Actress and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres launched the evening, followed by comedian Russell Brand. Award-winning director David Lynch spoke, as well as Dr Norman Rosenthal, eminent psychiatrist, researcher, and author of the New York Times bestselling book, Transcendence.
During the evening, the David Lynch Foundation also honoured three outstanding individuals, people who are enacting positive change on a large scale through their actions.
The first part of the evening concluded with Russell Brand interviewing quantum physicist, Dr John Hagelin. They exchanged banter about the unified nature of life, and both the profound knowledge and humour of their discussion delighted the audience.
Before leaving the presentation hall for the next stage of the event, a gala dinner, Dr Hagelin addressed the audience. He said, 'I want to thank all of you who've helped bring Transcendental Meditation to half a million at-risk kids in the last few years, and millions [more] in the years to come.'
