On Friday, 19 November, a prime time Brazilian TV news show covered the recent visit of Paul McCartney to the city of Sao Paulo, a report which included a three-minute segment on the Transcendental Meditation Programme.
The news broadcast gave a brief summary of the time Sir Paul and the other Beatles members spent with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi during the 1960s, and how this helped raise awareness of Transcendental Meditation in the Western world.
The segment also featured an interview with a Brazilian physician and his wife who first discovered Transcendental Meditation through listening to the Beatles over thirty years ago, and who still practise the technique to this day. The doctor described how TM has been a key element in his life, allowing him to excel professionally and personally.
Also interviewed was a Transcendental Meditation Teacher at the Maharishi Invincibility Centre* in Sao Paulo, who explained the profound ways in which the practice can affect the brain, eliminating stress and related disorders.
The prime time news programme was viewed by over 60 million people, many of whom had never heard of Transcendental Meditation before. Leaders of the Transcendental Meditation Programme in Brazil commented that it was an ideal way to introduce the benefits of the technique to this large, diverse group—representing almost one-third of the Brazilian population.
* Maharishi Invincibility Centres in major cities around the world offer the knowledge and programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, including the Transcendental Meditation Programme, to promote enlightenment for every individual and invincibility for every nation through development of full potential in every area of life.
