Green Globe announced certification of the True Blue Bay Resort in St. George's, Grenada, in the West Indies. For the past few years this Caribbean boutique hotel has taken a proactive role in preserving and protecting its untouched natural surroundings. Over the past year the resort has experimented with solar lights, and 'True Green Rooms,' which will virtually use no electricity and be powered by solar energy, are currently being planned. Packaging is reduced to a minimum, and a reuse and recycle programme is implemented. The purchasing policy favours local goods and services that have no negative environmental or social impact. Guests are invited to learn about local heritage and culture, and artisans display and sell their products twice per week at the property.
