A recent series of broad news updates from across Latin America included highlights of large numbers of people learning the Transcendental Meditation Programme in educational institutions, the corporate world, and other settings.
About 1,000 students at a boarding school and orphanage have learned Transcendental Meditation in recent months. As the students are in residence at the school full-time, this means they will be meditating together in large groups more often than students at other types of schools, who go home on holidays and weekends.
This is a very fruitful development, a Transcendental Meditation teacher commented. Learning the technique brings many scientifically documented benefits including reduced stress and increased academic achievement for the students and the school.
In addition, a major goal of such Consciousness-Based Education programmes is also to create an effect of coherence and harmony in the society through students' group meditation practice—and when the groups are large enough, in the whole nation.
All the large Transcendental Meditation groups throughout the continent are creating this influence of positivity, he said. Since 'coherence is needed every day', this new group also has a special role in helping ensure a continuous, uninterrupted effect.
Another development in the same country involves a large group of meditators at a corporation. A bank has decided to offer the Transcendental Meditation Programme not only for a few of their directors, as has been done at other companies in the past, but for all their employees and their families. Including family members, several thousand people will be learning Transcendental Meditation.
The head of the bank 'decided that everyone should have TM in the bank as a tool for the improvement of their human resources, as well as the families of the employees', one of the TM teachers said.
The corporate leaders undertook the project with the aim that the regular meditation practice of employees and their families will increase creativity, not only of the directors, but at all levels of the bank.
This is the first such large corporate programme involving Transcendental Meditation in the region.
