Employees at a respected cancer treatment centre in California, USA, as well as residents of the surrounding community, have been learning the Transcendental Meditation Programme over the past several months through the Center for Leadership Performance. In addition to learning the technique, employees and community members have enjoyed a series of lectures by experts on Transcendental Meditation and its applications in science and health.
More than half of the staff learned Transcendental Meditation after attending presentations given by Robert Schneider, MD, FACC, FABMR, leading cardiologist and dean of Maharishi College of Perfect Health at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa. Also attending the lectures were 150 people from the community.
The course was conducted onsite at the medical centre, which is built according to Vastu (Vedic architecture) principles of design. People from surrounding cities, having heard about the course from family and friends, also signed up to participate.
The new TM practitioners enjoyed lectures by experts in theoretical and practical applications of the programme, including Sarina Grosswald, EdD, expert in Transcendental Meditation and ADHD; John Hagelin, PhD, renowned quantum physicist; Nancy Longsdorf, MD with expertise in Maharishi Ayur-Veda natural health care; and Dr Robert Roth, vice president of the David Lynch Foundation. Gaining this in-depth knowledge helped the staff appreciate their TM practice even more, said one of the teachers who organized the course.
Courses like this can be replicated at any company by the Center for Leadership Performance, organizers said, to help alleviate employee stress, enhance productivity, and bring other benefits to the workplace and surrounding community.
