Operation Warrior Wellness: Building resilience and healing the hidden wounds of war through Transcendental Meditation
Operation Warrior Wellness (OWW), a division of the David Lynch Foundation, offers the Transcendental Meditation-based Resilient Warrior Program, a simple, easy-to-learn, evidence-based approach to relieving symptoms of PTSD and major depression and developing greater resilience to stress.
Since its initial launch in 2010, the OWW initiative has partnered with leading veterans service organizations and VA medical centers to deliver the Resilient Warrior Program to veterans, active-duty personnel and military families in need. TM is taught in addition to basic approaches such as counseling, cognitive therapy, exposure therapy, virtual reality therapy and medication. The initiative also partners with military colleges to create a new generation of more resilient officers.
Watch video—veterans relate their positive experiences as a result of practicing Transcendental Meditation:
∙ ''All that feeling of stress, all that feeling of heaviness, I can feel it melt away.''
∙ Woman veteran: ''To know that the concept of 20 minutes, twice a day, can make me feel like I feel now . . . that's a gift that you can't buy.''
∙ ''I'm more in love with my life, with my wife, with my kids, with my job, with my circumstances.''
∙ ''The anger is gone, the irritability is on a lesser scale . . . it's made me happy, it's made my family happy.''
The Resilient Warrior Program is an ideal fit for the military community:
∙ Evidence-based: Over 340 published studies document its effectiveness
∙ Simple to learn: Accessible to both civilian and military practitioners—standardized instruction ensures consistent results
∙ Easy to practice: Does not involve concentration or controlling the mind
∙ Confidential and portable: Can be practiced privately, anywhere, at any time.
In an article published in The Huffington Post, Lt. Gen. (Ret) Clarence E. McKnight said, ''TM is a proven technique for enabling people to deal with mental and emotional stress. . . . I have first-hand knowledge of the power of TM stemming from my time at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, way back in 1971. . . . TM is most assuredly NOT a religion; rather it is a technique for taking you down mentally to ground zero, clearing your mind of stress and frustration as you find peace within yourself and equanimity of spirit. It does not surprise me that TM has proven to be quite effective in helping victims of PTSD.''
