Chilean Army begins October demining of route leading to Torres del Paine park

On 24 September 2012 MercoPress reported: In October, the Chilean Army will begin the clearance of anti-tank mines that are buried along the sides of the route leading to Torres del Paine National Park from Puerto Natales. The mines were planted during the seventies at the height of a conflict with Argentina, which almost ended in a full-fledged war. The head of the Chamber of Tourism from Ultima Esperanza, Teobaldo Ruiz, said that the industry is most encouraged by the news and congratulates the national and military authorities for the announcement.
