Speaking 11 August 2008 on the Maharishi Global Family Chat, Dr Jose Luis Alvarez, Raja of Invincible Latin America for the Global Country of World Peace, presented news of the final day of the Brazilian tour by Dr David Lynch, renowned filmmaker, artist, and pioneer for Invincibility, singer-songwriter Donovan Leitch, and Dr Robert Roth, National Director of Expansion for the Global Country of World Peace in the United States.
Dr Lynch and Donovan gave two press conferences in Porto Alegre, Brazil — for television and the general press — as well as individual meetings with newspaper reporters.
As has been the case throughout the tour, the media and public receptivity to the knowledge of Maharishi's programmes has been extremely positive. Said Raja Luis, 'Dr Lynch and Donovan very sincerely share Maharishi's message that mankind is not made to suffer. That our nature is bliss, and the individual is cosmic.'
Raja Luis continued, 'At every event, at least one, but often more than one, influential person immediately wanted to take action on the message.' In Porto Alegre, a government official contacted Dr Lynch about instructing 2,000 students in the Transcendental Meditation Technique, and a businessman is interested in offering the programme to his 5,000 employees. A young man, the son of a wealthy businessman, flew from Argentina to meet Dr Lynch, whom he greatly admires. He was so impressed and moved by what he heard that he is now taking steps to develop Consciousness-Based Education programmes in Argentina and Brazil.
At a conference in Porto Alegre, Dr Lynch spoke and answered questions for 50 minutes, followed by a concert by Donovan. The audience of 1,200 (all with Master's degrees or PhDs) gave a long, standing ovation, and 200 people lined up to have Dr Lynch sign copies of his book. Raja Luis said, 'Everyone left recharged and renewed, having heard the message about what life could be. David won their hearts, and Donovan gave them the experience of transcendental bliss through his music.'
In Rio de Janeiro, the last stop before returning to the United States, Dr Lynch and Donovan spoke at a top university on the benefits of Transcendental Meditation as it relates to consciousness, creativity, and art. The event was seen by webcast all over the country.
Speaking from MERU, the Netherlands, Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, commented on the success of the Latin American tour by saying, 'David Lynch has credibility with this audience. . . . they come out of respect for his creativity. They are surprised to hear this man . . . to be so full of bliss and peace. He speaks Maharishi's knowledge from personal experience, telling his story with great conviction and simplicity. And people listen to him. It's as if he were magically designed by the need of the time to be the exponent of this knowledge to the . . . world in which we live.'
