On 7 February at MERU in Vlodrop, Holland, Dr John Hagelin, Raja of Invincible America, and Minister of Science and Technology of the Global Country of World Peace, opened the Global Memorial broadcast to millions of viewers around the world by global satellite on the Maharishi Channel and over the Internet on Channel 3 of the Maharishi Channel.
Dr Hagelin welcomed everyone to this global gathering honoring the extraordinary life and unprecedented global achievements of His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
'We are connected via global satellite and global internet webcast to millions of people throughout the world, who have benefitted greatly in their lives throughout the practice of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation programme, and its advanced techniques; millions and millions of people throughout the world who have gathered to honour the extraordinary life of Maharishi, who has irreversibly changed the destiny of civilization from darkness and ignorance to positively, happiness, —peace and invincibility throughout the world.'
Dr Hagelin said that we would gain a glimpse into the extraordinary world transforming achievements of Maharishi through the presentations of the leaders of his global organization, experts in every field of national concern.
The global celebration then began with a short global group meditation 'to practice the technique of Maharishi's that has transformed the world—bringing peace and enlightenment for the individual and promoting peace and invincibility for the world,' said Dr Hagelin.
Following the group meditation a recording of Maharishi's own words were played in which he spoke about the parental role of the Global Country of World Peace 'for the well-being and happiness of every individual in our world family, and every nation in our family of nations.'
Following this talk by Maharishi, Dr Hagelin explained that Maharishi has been describing that technology which allows us 'to peep into the ultimate reality that he revived from the ancient Vedic wisdom, the ancient Vedic science of consciousness; to glimpse and identify with that ultimate reality at the basis of all diversity in the universe—the fundamental unity of life that has been described since time immemorial by every major tradition on earth.
'But the Vedic tradition of India has the most comprehensive knowledge of that fundamental truth,' said Dr Hagelin. 'And it has in its custody also, more that any other tradition in the world, the technologies, the practical procedures to access that fundamental unity, that organising power which governs the universe—and to apply that unity, that organising intelligence to govern the world.'
Dr Hagelin then explained that Maharishi has described this fundamental unity as the 'Constitution of the Universe', the foundational level of Natural Law. Modern science has similarly revealed this fundamental unity, the Constitution of the Universe, as glimpsed through the Superstring theories of modern science [in Unified Field theories].
'With this scientific corroboration,' said Dr Hagelin, 'we can understand perhaps better today than in any time in the history of human kind, the incredible significance of the Vedic science of consciousness, which brings complete knowledge of this fundamental unity, and the practical techniques, the procedures to apply it [in daily life].
