Australia had its third-hottest year on record in 2017, the country's weather bureau said on Wednesday (10 January), as global warming changed the continent's climate and farmers warned unpredictable seasons are hurting the $47 billion agricultural sector. Unusually, the high heat last year came despite the absence of an El Nino weather system in the Pacific, which tends to warm Australia, the Bureau of Meteorology said in its annual climate statement.
