On July 2006 Edge Life Magazine reported: Environmental toxins challenge our health. Now there is proof that an ancient method used at the Raj Ayurveda Health Spa removes fat-soluble toxins without dangerous side effects. The Raj provides the ultimate experience of being pampered while healing the body and allowing the nervous system to reflect deeper levels of relaxation. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of health.
Impure food and water and polluted environments lead to the dangerous build up of water- and fat-soluble (lipophilic) toxins in our bodies. Toxins contribute to hormone disruption, immune system suppression, reproductive problems, several types of cancer, and other disorders such as allergies.
With the knowledge that mind and body are intimately connected, it is easy to imagine the effect such dangerous toxins have on our ability to completely relax and enjoy life.
Water-soluble toxins are relatively easy to reduce through activities that create large amounts of perspiration accompanied by drinking large volumes of water. However, as this article in the July issue of Edge Life Magazine reports, until now no method has been scientifically verified to reduce levels of fat-soluble toxins in the human body without causing negative side effects.
The magazine reports on a two-month longitudinal study published in Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine. This recent scientific study, the Edge Life Magazine reports was 'conducted on 'panchakarma', an ancient ayurvedic purification procedure'. It showed a reduction of about 50 per cent on certain fat-soluble toxins after an average of only five days of treatment.
The study measured reductions in fat-soluble toxin levels, PCB (polychlorinated biphenyl) and Beta-HCH (a compound in the pesticide lindane) of '46 per cent and 58 per cent respectively in the Maharishi Ayurveda detoxification group. Without panchakarma, the expected drop in PCBs and Beta-HCH over a two-month period would only be a fraction of 1 per cent'.
Robert Herron, PhD, the lead author, points out that this is the first published study on humans to demonstrate that a specific detoxification regimen can significantly reduce levels of lipophilic toxins in the blood. These toxins, which come from occupational and agricultural chemicals, are known to be associated with chronic disorders.
Panchakarma procedures using ancient methods were studied at an award-winning facility, The Raj Ayurveda Health Spa, in Vedic City, Iowa. They are part of Maharishi Ayurveda, the 5,000-year-old science of Ayurveda as restored by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and leading Ayurvedic doctors, or 'vaidyas', from India. The procedures were found not only to purify the body but they also 'brought about profound states of relaxation'.
This therapy is unique in the use of lipophilic materials, which are non-toxic in nature, such as clarified butter, along with herbalized sesame oil massages, and other methods which loosen fat-soluble toxins from the sites where they are lodged in the body and stimulate their elimination.
The article says that 'according to Dr Herron, the findings were quite striking, given that these toxins normally remain in the physiology for many years, yet this comprehensive detoxification procedure removed them in just a few days'.
The Maharishi Ayurveda detoxification program offered at The Raj provides an individually prescribed combination of treatments designed to bring about detoxification, balance and rejuvenation. The article describes several specific treatments, which vary according to the individual's needs, available at the Raj.
All treatments are performed by trained and experienced ayurveda therapists. 'As stress, fatigue and toxins are removed, and as balance is restored, the body's natural healing abilities are re-enlivened.'
'The experience is beyond incredible,' the article quoted writer Sharon Kaufman. 'It was easy to forget that each of these treatments is oriented towards maximizing health, since it so completely pampering! By my second day, I began to notice that tension and imbalance seemed to be lifted from my body. I felt renewed, refreshed, with a clearer peace of mind, and it was like nothing I've felt before.'
