FG to launch GWSI project against desert encroachment

On 12 September 2012 Daily Times NG reported: The Nigerian Federal Government has announced plans to launch the Great Green Wall Sahara Initiative (GWSI) in October, to curb desert encroachment caused by climate change. The project is expected to run across Africa, from Mauritania in the North West, to Djibouti in the North East. It will involve reforestation, ranging from development of shelterbelts to woodlots, among others. The project, which will be executed in phases, will last for a period of 12 years.
