Danish government shows interest in Maharishi's programmes for world peace

On his return to Denmark from the Raja Training Course on 23 August 2005, His Highness Dr Bjarne S Landsfeldt, Raja of Denmark, gave an interview on National Danish Television. During the interview it was reported that the Danish Minister of Defence had attended a conference with Raja Bjarne and film director David Lynch on the topic of creating peace in the world through the Transcendental Meditation Programme.

Raja Bjarne answered questions on a variety of topics including the Raja Training Conference, his role as Raja, and how the knowledge of consciousness can bring fulfilment to the role of government and bring peace to the world.

Following is a summary of the interview:

The interviewer introduced Raja Bjarne as His Highness Dr Bjarne S Landsfeldt, recently appointed Raja of Denmark.

'During the past six months I have been through a special training programme, leadership training at Maharishi University of Management in Holland,' Raja Bjarne said. He described the Raja Training Conference as 'a very special and intensive training programme focusing on the development of consciousness, led directly by our greatest living expert in the field of consciousness, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi'.

Raja Bjarne explained that the basis of his knowledge was 'the huge development of consciousness that I have been through, especially during the past six months [at the Raja Training Conference]; and it has reached a point where all the secrets of life unfold themselves'.

The interviewer explained that the purpose of the Raja Training Conference was to make the participants 'capable of solving all problems in the world' and that 'Raja Bjarne will use his training to create a better and more peaceful world.'

Raja Bjarne said that as Raja he has responsibility for Denmark, including the Faeroe Islands and Greenland, but said: 'I also have responsibility for Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czeck Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbadian, Kazakstan, Kyrgystan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Russia.'

Raja Bjarne said that his role as Raja is to provide that which has been missing from the administration of society: 'giving strength and nourishment to the whole population from the most fundamental level'.

The interviewer went on to explain that 'all of humanity is connected together' on the level of consciousness, and that the Transcendental Meditation Programme influences the 'collective consciousness' of the world. The interviewer said: 'Sceptics might think that this theory is not very likely to be real, but they have to understand that millions of people around the world believe in this and that the theory has been described in serious media like the American Time magazine, and that serious scientists are trying to prove the theory.'

The interviewer then said to Raja Bjarne 'You have to explain all this very concretely—does this mean that if there is war then through meditation we can create peace?'

Raja Bjarne cited the scientific research on the group practice of the Transcendental Meditation Programme and its advanced techniques in the area of world peace. He said: 'We have now about 50 concrete examples of this. One example is from the war in Lebanon. A group of two to three hundred people was placed literally in the war zone, and due to their collective meditations from the deepest common level of consciousness more peace and harmony was created in the surroundings, and in the statistics outside one could see that the war activities became less.'

The interviewer indicated that Raja Bjarne is not alone in his thinking: 'Even on the highest level there is real interest in these things which Maharishi's Movement is dealing with. The theory of peace-creating meditation is being shown interest all over the world and also in Denmark. Last year the Danish Minister of Defence showed up to a conference where Raja Bjarne and David Lynch presented their theories.'

Raja Bjarne said that this kind of response from the Danish government 'shows an opening in relation to our government'. He said that it is getting close to the point where the government could make the decision to establish a coherence-creating group for Denmark. He explained that this would not only help the nation, but the government itself: 'If the government enlists that support from the most fundamental level in nature—the government can stay in power for as long as they like if they have that kind of support.'
