Although he had no prior knowledge of agriculture, Dr Iseo Squaranti attended the recent course on Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture in MERU, Holland, becoming 'fascinated with the knowledge' presented. Speaking on the Maharishi Channel,* he emphasized that through nourishing rather than depleting the soil, using the techniques of Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture, crops become more abundant each year, bringing greater profit for the farmer.
Dr Peter Swan, expert in Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture, who led the course in MERU, explained that it is the consciousness of the farmer that is at the centre of the whole process of agriculture. The course also brought out that everything in agriculture is intelligent—the ground, the soil, the crops, the weather, added Dr Squaranti, who is a member of the Maharishi Purusha Programme** in MERU. 'The course goes into great detail, so one feels very intimate with [everything].'
As the course progressed, Dr Squaranti realized that everyone, even those like him who began with no particular knowledge of agriculture, could take it just for the knowledge it offers. There is some practical aspect for everyone, he said, because 'everyone has a little garden, or something,' and 'very good information is given for practical use.'
He emphasized that Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture gives back to, or nourishes, the soil as much as what is taken out from it. This is the reason crops are more abundant year after year, because the land itself is being nourished by the process of agriculture, not depleted. This also means more profit for the farmer, he said.
Dr Swan commented that this understanding—that everything is intelligent and everything is consciousness—is the supreme level of realization of Unity, which is the central theme of this course on Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture. The course will soon be available in countries around the world.
* Dr Iseo Squaranti and Dr Peter Swan spoke on the 5 May Maharishi Global Family Chat, which is broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
** Maharishi explains that Purusha means the Self, the quality of infinite silence of the Unified Field of Natural Law.
