Tajikistan to help Balkh in environment protection

The country of Tajikistan has promised assistance to the northern Balkh province of Afghanistan to help restore its once green landscape. Afghani environmental specialists will travel to the region for research and assessmments.

Afghanistan and Tajikistan signed an agreement whereby the former will supply saplings to repopulate the once luxurious vegetation of the Afghan province, now mostly destroyed by war and drought. Tajikistan has already donated 20,000 saplings to the Mazar-i-Sharif municipality and to the Afghani agricultural department.
The Governor of Afghanistan, Ata Mohammad, praised the assistance provided by Tajikistan, stating that it was proof of the friendship between the two nations. The Tajik Minister for Environment, Abdul Wahid Yaqoobwich, currently on a visit to the Governor, remarked: 'To improve environment in the province and increase greenery, we will provide necessary equipment and saplings besides imparting training to Afghan experts in our country.'
