On a visit to Mongolia to participate in a Consciousness-Based Education conference, a delegation from Maharishi University of Management (MUM) discovered how important spirituality is in the country.
In addition to the enthusiastic response from students, educators, and the public to their numerous presentations on Consciousness-Based Education, the professors from Maharishi University of Management were impressed with the level of interest and dedication to meditation and to reaching enlightenment they encountered in Mongolia.
Dr Tom Stanley, vice-chair of the MUM Board of Trustees and director of Consciousness-Based programmes in Mongolia, noted that during the delegation's visit two Vedic experts from India were also visiting the country.
They were there to teach advanced techniques of Transcendental Meditation to people who had already learned the meditation practice, Dr Stanley said. He estimated that more than 150 people were taking the advanced course. 'Our population of meditators want more knowledge, they are very committed,' he said.
Who are the people practising Transcendental Meditation in Mongolia who are so dedicated to their practice?
They are mainly professional people, he explained: doctors, attorneys, accountants, engineers, geologists, educators, and government officials. 'They are looking for the light of life, they are looking for spiritual development . . . something that has substance.'
Spirituality is an important part of life in Mongolia, Dr Stanley said. He talked about a visit with the head lama of a monastery, a sage man who had learned Transcendental Meditation many years ago.
'This man met Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in 1992,' Dr Stanley explained. He traveled around the world at Maharishi's request, spreading the message of the importance of spiritual development.
On his last day in Mongolia, Dr Stanley appeared with two local Transcendental Meditation teachers on a popular morning talk show in Ulaanbaatar, the capital city. They chatted about Transcendental Meditation and other technologies of consciousness brought to light from the Vedic tradition of knowledge by Maharishi.
