The new master's programme in Media and Communications at Maharishi University of Management, set to begin in autumn 2013, is based on an effective undergraduate programme. Given the success of the BA degree programme over the last several years, combined with the current job market climate, professors in the MA programme are confident in their future students' success.

Professor Stuart Tanner, a documentary filmmaker for the BBC, the Discovery Channel, and National Geographic, commented on the success of the undergraduate programme.

'The graduates are very sought after, very much in demand, and find good positions,' he said. '[They] are also doing great work.'

He commented on the high goals of the Media and Communications department.

'It's really about producing work that is of a very high professional standard. . . . We expect quite a few of [the students] to cover some of the extraordinary things that are happening in the world right now.'

In fact, this social awareness is something Professor Tanner sees in his students. 'Many of our students have gone on to make documentaries and films.'

This ability is a highly marketable skill today.

'The art of conveying what is happening in the world and communicating to others is really fundamental and important,' said Professor Tanner. 'To be able to do that across all digital media is a tremendous asset these days. There is hardly any business that doesn't need a very strong, sophisticated media presence.'

He concluded, 'This is why our students are proving to be so successful.'

Because of this response to their undergraduate students, Professor Tanner and others in the Media and Communications department are confident the deeper knowledge and more professional portfolios of their students in the upcoming master's programme will be in as much demand, if not more.
