On 29 October 2012 WBIR.com reported: The University of Tennessee has opened a dozen electric car charging stations on campus. It's part of the university's overall goal to reduce its carbon footprint. 'This is part of regional effort in the Knoxville area to get chargers out all over the place. So that won't be a barrier to people buying electric cars,' said Mark Hairr of UT Parking and Transit Services. San Francisco based company Ecotality owns and operates the charging stations. Through a US Department of Energy grant, the company is installing about 14,000 chargers across the country.
