Dr. Norman Rosenthal delivers the 2011 commencement address at Maharishi University of Management
'Be yourself,' distinguished psychiatrist and bestselling author Dr Norman Rosenthal told Maharishi University of Management (MUM) graduates in his commencement address.
This was the second of seven 'pearls of wisdom' presented in his address. Please see Part I and Part II of this article.
In December 2007, Dr Rosenthal said, MUM students visited MERU, Holland and had the opportunity to meet with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi [Founder of the Transcendental Meditation Programme and Maharishi University of Management] via teleconference.
'Someone asked Maharishi to tell them 'something that would help them develop themselves more quickly and guide them through life. His simple answer was ''Be yourself.'' '
'Wisdom does not belong to a single culture or era,' Dr Rosenthal said. 'It is universal and for all time.'
'Hundreds of years ago Shakespeare wrote: ''This above all: to thine own self be true.''
'Your regular practice of Transcendental Meditation is key. The practice of meditation should remind you that you deserve to set aside the time to get to know yourself and to be yourself. . . .
'Be yourself: You'll find it's just the easiest and most rewarding thing to be,' Dr Rosenthal concluded.
In the coming days, Global Good News will continue to feature Dr Rosenthal's commencement address.
