The delegation of distinguished education and government leaders from the Balkans that recently visited MERU, Holland, reaped high praise for their deep understanding, commitment, and dynamic approach in supporting Consciousness-Based Education—to bring coherence and peace and ensure a better future for their whole region.
The delegation—the Mayor of a city in Macedonia, and two university educators in that country and other Balkan nations—had just finished addressing an assembly of administrators of organizations teaching the Transcendental Meditation Programme around the world. Earlier in the day they completed agreements to soon begin collaborating with Maharishi European Research University on Consciousness-Based Education programmes.
Having praised the delegation's remarkable achievements in establishing their new university so quickly—and their broad vision and support for Consciousness-Based Education—an administrator of the Transcendental Meditation Programme in Switzerland and several Balkan states, went on to describe the mutual appreciation that has developed with these leaders since they first visited MERU in 2007, through his visits to the Mayor's city and the university's campuses in four Balkan nations.
Dr Ashley Deans, Global Ambassador for Consciousness-Based Education, also visited several of the university's campuses and spoke to all the directors, faculty, and students with the administrator, who described their reception everywhere as 'overwhelmingly warm'. He was 'highly impressed' with the beautiful new campuses, and the 'very cultured atmosphere' he encountered there, with students who are very polite and respectful of their teachers.
The Mayor first welcomed the administrator to his city in 2007, with another educator who has been involved in a longer-term initiative to establish Maharishi Central University of Europe in the Balkan region.
The Mayor has been very supportive of this project, the administrator said; during their first meeting, along with one of the university leaders, a large, historic piece of land on a hillside on a beautiful lake, was designated as a site to build Maharishi Central University. The Mayor has pledged to provide support so that the organizations offering Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes could establish the university when official approval has been completed.
The administrator concluded by commenting on several factors that will contribute to the successful realization of these endeavours, including the deep understanding and commitment of the Mayor, who, together with the university educators, understood and adopted Maharishi's principles and were ready to go ahead.
Maharishi has been structuring the knowledge of Consciousness-Based Education for the last 50 years, and Dr Susan Dillbeck, President of the International Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education, has been working in this field for 40 years; and the teachers and administrators of the Transcendental Meditation Programme are available to cooperate on all levels in implementing the programme, he said.
He expressed everyone's thanks to the delegation for coming, for their great inspiration and support, and 'for your great commitment and action-oriented approach' to make use of Maharishi's programmes in education.
