Maharishi Schools being established in Great Britain

Recently speaking on the Maharishi Global Family Chat, Raja Peter Warburton discussed his hopes and plans for establishing new Maharishi Schools in Great Britain.

Raja Peter was happy to report that work has already begun on the construction of a Maharishi School at the Peace Colony* in Suffolk, England. Furthermore, he noted that the charter for the existing Maharishi School in Skelmersdale, England, will be able to replicate itself throughout the country. 'In this way, we won't have to start our new Maharishi Schools from scratch,' said Raja Peter. 'We've already gained credibility through the school in Skelmersdale, which was established 20 years ago.'

He added that some local regulations would apply in building new schools, but nothing stringent or complex, as would be the case with starting a school from scratch.

Raja Peter reported that many members of the Global Country of World Peace in Great Britain are currently focused on this project, including the Director of Education, the Director of Ladies' Education, and the National Directors of Scotland and Wales. He mentioned that, in addition to establishing new schools, he and others are still working to introduce Transcendental Meditation into already-existing schools throughout England, Scotland, and Wales.

The projects are being supported in part by teachers and students' families who recognize the great value of Consciousness-Based Education; government or parent organizations may also provide support for special programmes, such as those for students with learning and behavioural disabilities. 'In addition, we have created a Maharishi Invincible Schools Fund, as was undertaken for all countries to do last year,' said Raja Peter.

This will allow them to inspire support from well-wishers of peace and invincibility for Great Britain through the programmes of the Global Country of World Peace; as well as from businesses and foundations, Raja Peter said. He added that support has increased since last October, when filmmaker David Lynch toured through Great Britain with Donovan, Raja John Hagelin, and Dr Bevan Morris, promoting the Transcendental Meditation Technique and Maharishi's programmes.

Long-term plans include approaching foundations that specifically support education. 'In order to do this,' said the Raja, 'we must lay out detailed plans for specific schools we wish to establish, as well as present specific studies on Consciousness-Based Education and its benefits.'

Raja Peter expressed confidence that, with such clear presentation of goals, sufficient support could be attained for expanding Consciousness-Based Education in Great Britain.
